Just like any other medicine, Lipitor may cause side effects in some patients. The severity of side effects caused by this medicine or contributed to by the use of this medicine may vary from patient to patient. The fact one patient may develop certain Lipitor side effects while others will display no side effects at all proves one important point: it's impossible to foresee the reaction of every individual to the treatment prescribed. It's only possible to predict if the patient has a history of an allergic reaction to Lipitor's active ingredient atorvastatin. In that case, Lipitor can cause swelling of the face or throat, trouble breathing, hives and rash. This is why it's important to make sure you are not allergic to the medicine you are about to take, as it is not expected to be efficient anyway in cases like that. In general, a few mild Lipitor side effects and serious ones could be named, all of them reported by patients in clinical trials.

The following Lipitor side effects are considered mild and usually do not need to be reported to the doctor: mild nausea, mild muscle pain and diarrhea. As the number of the mild Lipitor side effects possible and their intensity suggest, this medicine is very safe and highly unlikely to cause any reactions in the patients undergoing the treatment at all. However, you do need to be aware of side effects that are more serious. Although those have been reported by only one or two percent of people using the medicine during clinical trials, it's very important to be aware of their theoretical possibility. The treatment should be stopped in case any of the following serious side effects occur: unusual tiredness, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark colored urine or urinating less than usual.
